How to visit Springbrook National Park without a car

Backpackers hiking a rainforest track in Springbrook National Park

Springbrook National Park is one of the best day trips from the Gold Coast: World Heritage-listed rainforest, waterfalls and lookouts on the rim of an ancient volcano. The catch for backpackers is getting there.

Is there public transport to Springbrook?

No. There's no public transport to Springbrook National Park, and the drive from Surfers Paradise takes about an hour on steep, winding mountain roads. Without a car, a tour is the easiest way to go.

What to see in Springbrook

  • Twin Falls: a rainforest circuit to a waterfall you can swim under
  • Purling Brook Falls: one of the biggest waterfalls in the park
  • Best of All Lookout: views from the rim of the ancient Tweed Volcano to Wollumbin (Mount Warning)
  • Natural Bridge: a waterfall that pours through the roof of a cave, on an easy 1 km circuit

Good to know

  • Swimming isn't allowed in the creek or cave at Natural Bridge
  • Tracks can be wet and slippery, so wear good walking shoes
  • It's cooler up the mountain than on the coast, so bring a warm jacket
